In this episode Maxwell Cooper, M.D. interviews Tamir Wolf, M.D., Ph.D., Co-Founder and CEO of Theator, a digital platform using AI and computer vision to help improve surgical care, optimize processes, and reduce variation in surgical outcomes. Dr. Wolf tells the listeners about his previous career as a trauma surgeon in the Israeli equivalent of US Navy Seal Team 6 and how his career transitioned toward medical innovation and entrepreneurship. Dr. Wolf discusses how when he learned about the disparities in surgical outcomes and care a single city of the US, he was inspired to start Theator to help improve surgical outcomes. Dr. Wolf partnered with Co-Founders experienced in tech development and created the Theator platform, which analyzes surgical video footage using AI and computer vision to provide insights into key decision points, eventful steps, and important milestones during the procedure. Theator has already been implemented across several hospital systems, including the Mayo Clinic, with the intent of equalizing outcomes, identifying areas of improvement, and improving education for surgical residents and practicing surgeons looking to expand their skillset. Lastly, Dr. Wolf discusses the importance of finding Co-Founders and team members that compliment your skill and how to provide the right balance of oversight and freedom for team members to do their best work.
